Greenwich, Connecticut is an incredibly competitive and well connected town. We’ve worked with countless students from the area, and over time we’ve found that most students from Greenwich are working with college admissions consultants. This means that you’re competing against peers who are not only working with a professional, but also have parents who are leveraging connections to help their children get into top-tier schools.

Greenwich’s proximity to New York City only increases competition. In order to stand out amongst the crowd, it’s crucial to put together a comprehensive plan that aligns with your areas of academic interests and demonstrates growth and commitment to your unique passions.

It’s common for students from Greenwich to watch their older classmates go on to attend schools like Brown, Georgetown, and Stanford. And more often than not, they have similar goals. A primary area of focus when working with students from Greenwich is to work through the idea that all top-tier schools are an automatically perfect fit. We start by considering admissions viability, and then get down to the nitty gritty. We get to know our clients, research academic programs, and find schools that aren’t just household names, but solid fits that make sense based on your academic goals and personalities.

Greenwich Admissions Consulting: How It Works

Once we get to know our clients, we’ll help with the following:

Timeline: After we’ve gotten to know our client, you’ll receive a customized timeline for the rest of your high school career. We break our timelines out by month, and check in on your progress during our weekly calls. We’ll put you on the right track, remove the guesswork, and optimize the way that you spend your time.

For example, a recent timeline of a Greenwich-based client who came at the beginning of Junior year looked like:

  • January through May - implement all proposal items. Our proposals are customized based on our clients interests.

  • May - Finalize School List, including Early Decision school choice.

  • June / July - Finish Common App Essay.

  • July - Organize supplemental materials: grades, test scores, letters of recommendation.

  • August 1st - School supplements come out. We’ll start with your Early Decision school and then work our way through the rest in order of the deadlines.

  • December 1st - Finish all supplements.

Proposals: Once we’ve narrowed down your interests, we’ll put together a proposal. We ask our clients to set aside a few hours a week to make their way through it, and by completing the proposal, you’ll show your dream school that you’re dedicated and building on what you’ve learned year after year.

Let’s say that we’re working with a client from Greenwich Academy who is broadly interested in Environmental Science. We would start by narrowing down a few aspects of the field that they’re most passionate about, and then find ways to engage with those niche areas. We would start with a few online courses, books, and weekly news readings. After those have been completed, we might apply to summer programs or try to secure a research position with a college professor.

Extracurricular Activities: These days, colleges are looking for specialists. They want to admit students who pursue their passions to the fullest, which means that you need to find creative ways to engage with your interests. This requires creativity and hard work. We help our clients find the kind of opportunities that catch the eye of college admissions teams.

Creating School Lists: We look at a variety of metrics and use them to create college lists that are broken out by reach, target, and safety schools. We spend a lot of time with our clients to ensure that they’re applying to schools that make sense academically, socially, and culturally. We’re proud to say that none of our clients have ever transferred, and we believe it’s because we take pride in getting to know our clients and rely on our knowledge of the landscape to make suggestions that align with what our clients are looking for in a college experience.

Essays: Everything from the common app essay to every single supplement will be written with the help of one of TKG’s writers. We start the process by explaining all written aspects of the college process. After our clients gain a better understanding of what strong college essays are about, we start to brainstorm. Once we’ve narrowed down a few ideas, we start the initial draft. We continue to edit essays with our clients for weeks, then we review them internally. After meeting with our team, we revise all of the essays with our clients until they’re as strong as possible. We’re constantly improving the essays and ensuring that they all work together to paint a cohesive picture of who our clients are as people and students.
